World Building

Task 7- Now its time to design your world! 

 -I want to base my game on the Cook Islands, I'm planning on using the different tourist attractions in my game for my island(world), e.g Atiu - Island of birds and underground caves, Mauke - underwater caves, Aitutaki - beautiful lagoon.

Uses of colors in Avaiki

- My game will have two worlds; the real world Avaiki and the parallel one(still trying to find a name) Both my worlds will be set on islands, they would obviously have similar appearances but the differences to the real and parallel world will be made obvious. 

The game will be set within the parallel world( Avaiki will be in the intro of my game, its actual starter will be when the protagonist enters the parallel world) I've envisioned a 'Alice in wonderland' kind of theme/world. I want it to have a dark yet magical atmosphere. So basically i want my game to start off with the natural beautiful scenery of nature, then when the main character ends up in the parallel world it's all dark and mysterious. Like she's stepped into a magical land with exotic creatures.

-The introduction of the game will be when Poerava arrives at Avaiki and she is shown around the village she will be staying at. As the sun sets her uncle takes her to her hut and tells her to not leave at night, but something happens. She hears a child crying and a singing voice. She steps out and everything is foggy and dark. There's a bright flash. This is where the game starts.  Level 1 (Answers) She meets a bird and helps it find its mistress. Level 2(Fated Ones) she ends up in a pretty plantation that has a enchanted blue pond. Level 3(Defeat) she reaches a village that has been deserted because of the invasion of a huge sea creature. Level 4(Bewitched) she is walking pass a cave when she hears a beautiful singing voice. Level 5 (escape) the mountain is her answer she needs to reach it and return the items on the marae before the third moon-rise... The end.

Level 1(The Lady and the bird). You can hear the drums and noises of creatures as well as a song faintly being sung in Maori. The protagonist finds herself standing in what seems to look like a garden. Tamareni trees, Tipani trees, flowers and grassy field. This is where she meets the bird. She must help the bird find its missing Mistress.The garden is like a maze the only way to find the mistress is to steal the map from the warrior. Don't let him catch you. She finds the mistress who gives her the answers to where she is and how to get back home. Towards the end of the game the players must answer a riddle that will be hinted throughout the first level. So pay attention to your surround, the bird will also be the guide in the parallel world.

Level 2 Ati e te Momoke(Fated Ones) You've got the map and find yourself in a plantation. Taro, Kumara, Maniota and banana trees, and in the middle of that plantation sits a pretty blue pond. To pass this level you need to get the chiefs tapa and fishing net in order to free the people who are trapped in the pond. Be sure to keep quiet or you'll wake the guardian of the pond. Here is where the protagonist finds out about her relatives background(moms side) At the end of the game she is rewarded a tribal spear with the clue of what she is looking for in the next level.

Level 3 (Defeat) An abandoned village. This village looks exactly like the one in Avaiki, only differences: its foggy and dull. The lack of bright light gives the village a haunted appearance. she wonders around the place and comes across a meeting house. In there she finds her belongings and an old piece of paper with blurred writings " Matakite i te...." She is about to exit the hut when she hears the singing voices again, their louder this time. Then the hut she is in suddenly melts and foam into small soul eating eels. The spear is her weapon, don't let them reach your feet. She needs to find the boss that control the eels and get the item she needs.

Level 4 (Bewitched) in this level the protagonist is in the woods. Trees and bushes with both muddy and rocky paths. A thunder strikes then it rains all of a sudden. I want this level to scare my target audience especially since this legend has a scary story-line to it. When she enters the cave its dark..a soft voice is singing a melody. In this cave the protagonist will find bones and patterns carved into the cave walls. The protagonist needs to solve the puzzle and find the souls of the bones. However her ultimate challenge in this level is the lady who sings. She needs to find its source and defeat it.

Level 5 (Escape) This is the last level. Every item she had received from each of the level are the key to home. This is where she needs to put the items in the right places like a mix and match. there's gonna be a timer to build the tension. Then when everything is in the right place, there's a bright flash. but wait, she's still standing in the same place, in the same world. Then she sees a stonewall with words carved on it. (its going to be in maori but i'll type in english) "The people has been betrayed. Tangaroa's Mountain has been taken by the tribe of Avaiki. their descendants will be forever punished" THE END.


Each of my levels will be structured differently. The first level consist of beautiful light colors, with exotic flowers pretty birds and trees to hopefully pull consumers in. I want to let my audience to see the beauty of this island before its destruction. The second level is to prepare the audience. Give them a taste of fun. This level consist of wetlands and other crops, so the basic colors will be greens and brown. Traps will be laid out to spice things up in this level. The storyline for me game will be told more clearly in the game. The third level is where the action starts. Shades of dark blues, greys and possibly white are the dominant colors in this level to build tension. Its an abandoned village and i want it to look like its haunted. The forth level consist of both rocky and muddy paths, shes heading towards a mountain so obviously there will be trees and bushes. Fifth level will be on a mountain so there will be bushes and coconut trees. When the protagonist passes each levels she meets the main characters from the legends.
