Newton Hidden Object Game So apparently this game is a S taff F avorite  and because I like object finding games i decided to play this. Like every other object finding games, there are hidden things that are meant to be found. But I reckon the game challenge is a bit too easy for the players- the hidden objects are placed in obvious places which spoils the game. Which got me thinking about my game, if i were to create a object finding game, there should be enough challenges to keep consumers engaged. [ Not to repeat the mistake of placing the Hidden objects in obvious places, i mean come on 'hidden' objects are meant to be 'hidden', finding the objects is the main thing in object finding games. ] Newton Hidden Object Game is similar to every basic object games. It has 3 sets of levels with different settings and hidden objects to find. Playing the game literally took me ten seconds to find all the hidden objects and this is something i don't want for ...

Cave Terror I had assumed this game would have a horror genre of some sort but was disappointed that the game did not live up to its own title ( Cave Terror ) It seems that the protagonist of the game  (which is that yellow dot) is in an underground maze and is trying to find a way out. I'm a little bummed that this game does not have any sort of navigation to help the protagonist find their way out - keeps running into dead ends.  It's frustrating to play a game that doesn't give off any instructions as to what you're supposed to do and your literally floating around in circles.  I found the art of this game is too simple as well as its game-play. The art of the game reminds me of a 2D game by the name of Jewel ( it's a pretty old game, mainly played on Nokia phones, where the protagonist is on an underground quest; collecting red/purple jewels and keys, defeat a giant snake and earn a treasure that is helpful in other stages)  There isn't any ot...

Interview

Image
So my classmates and i had an interview with (*drumroll*) The developer of the vr game Proton War, Jonathan Cummings.  Heres how it went...  questions were asked and they were answered by Mr.Cummings. I've always known that your surrounding as well as people have a big influence on both your life and choice/decisions. In our interview from the pro( Jonathan Cummings) his choice of becoming a game developer was influenced by his father. " I had always been around computers...my dad was a programmer when i was a kid, and taught me how to program...and well, games are cool, and fascinating".  Games are cool and Fascinating..if i wasn't taking this class(media studies) i wouldn't have agreed with him but i do. Games are indeed fascinating. Some may not agree but i think that games have a purpose in everyones life. Its purpose could be for escapism, a job, education, entertainment and so on. Its really interesting. I wasn't at all surprised to find that this...

Game Genres

my developing understandings around gaming genre. - how we classify genre gaming -what are some of the challenges 'A  video game genre  is a classification assigned to a  video game  based on its  gameplay  interaction rather than  visual  or  narrative  differences...i s defined by a set of gameplay challenges and are classified independently of their  setting  or game-world content, unlike other works of  fiction  such as  films  or  books . ' From what I've learned,  t here are a lot of genres in gaming and because of this codes and conventions are used to help players identify their genres. Codes and conventions are used together in any study of genre - it's not enough to discuss to a technical codes used such as camera work, without saying how it is conventionally used in a genre. Mark J.P Wolf says ''Video game genre study differs markedly from literacy or film genre study due to the ...

Flow by Jenovah Chen Flow is unlike any game. Flow is a game about piloting an aquatic organism through a surreal biosphere where players consume other organisms, evolve and advance their organism to the abyss. The graphics in Flow is unique it captures attention and also gives out a calming effect on the players. Its like you've entered a whole new universe you can't even begin to explain it. I really admire the colors used in Flow.  There's also a ocean like vibe the graphic gives off, kind of like snorkeling and you see a whole different world underwater, you're filled with awe and amazement. Flow is just like this, everything is so pretty with the choices of beautiful colors that consist with a variety of blue, green, and purple. Q- What effect does sound have in Flow? The sound in Flow gives off a soothing vibe and really helps in keeping the players interest in the game. When i first played Flow, I had the volume up so loud that it kind of startled me...

Game Research - Scary Girl by Nathan Jurevicius Scary Girl  is a ga me about a girl who goes out on an adventure to find out who the stranger she had dreamt about is.  Every game has to have a story and its always told at the beginning of the game. S cary Girl  is unlike most games which makes it unique. Instead of telling the full story of the game, a short clip is shown before the protagonist wakes and the game starts. Everything about the game is shown visually rather than orally. Which is pretty creative and catchy. Instead of actual words spoken, featured animations are used for interactions and so on. At first, i was at a loss to what the game was about and only knew the aim. It was kind of frustrating. [A/N] the fact that the game uses animated features and illustrations to interact is mindblowing. This gives players the chance to use their imagination in the game and try to figure out the mysteries of the game. But it was kinda hard for me cause im not...
